That first impression is usually summed up by our appearance. Here are other image areas you need to take a closer look at and yes, it can affect your paycheck.
We are all in sales at some level or another and how we relate to our customers and their needs is a balance we strive for. What about the Internet and email campaigns? There is so much out there, do your research; how do you measure up? And what about the mine field of social marketing. I refer to it that way because it is having such an impact in our personal and professional lives. It is so easy to take a peak at a potential employee and learn more about them and their choices on how they represent themselves. So you may want to think twice about bragging about how much beer you drank on Saturday night and how you party every chance you get if you are a business owner or seeking employment.

Our image goes way beyond how we dress
Here are some great things to keep in mind if you are a home-based business. Well actually good for everyone, but especially if you are a home-based business.
I've noticed that home-based businesses sometimes have to work harder to establish credibility. They have to really be aware of their "image". I have heard people say, "I don't have to dress up, I can wear whatever I want because it is my business." And even though that may be true, proceed with caution; are you showing up for business or is it a hobby? People are watching and consistency is key. Define your look or style and decide how you want to show up for business.

What can you expect from an image consultant?
How do you know when to hire an image consultant? This article compares the difference between a Stylist and an Image Consultant.
Clients come to me because they want to know how their image is being perceived. What message are they sending? My job is to help them to define and align their image both personally and professionally. It doesn't always mean a complete overhaul, it just may be helping them discover the most flattering colors for them and how to make changes to improve their wardrobe while working with what they have. I love to see their enthusiasm and watch their confidence begin to soar right before my eyes.

And what about that long hair?
This link shares a young woman's thoughts about how her hair and her image impact her where she works. Who knows why we hold on to old ways of thinking or who has influenced our decision about the length and style of our hair. I for one have been blessed with pretty decent hair, sto me, it's hair, no big deal, it will grow!
I find the toughest conversation I have with female clients is about their hair. I see many women who think the length of their hair defines their beauty, Yet they just let it grow and pull it back in a pony tail. What's beautiful about that? Even young girls do this a lot and I honestly don't get the point of having long hair if you never wear it down. The ironic part of all this is, that a an updated style can make a woman feel more confident and look more vibrant and sometimes even younger. I need to make my appointment now!
